Star Report

The public is invited to the free 34th annual Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital (SYVCH) Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, at the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott Hotel, located at 555 McMurray Road in Buellton.  All ages are welcome to attend.

The health fair will offer these popular screenings:

  • Free seasonal flu shots (first come, first vaccinated for those 18 and older and not pregnant)
  • Free blood pressure checks
  • Free osteoporosis screenings

Osteoporosis screenings are very popular and will be available on a first come, first screened basis. Osteoporosis is a medical condition that causes bones to become weak and brittle. Each osteoporosis screening participant will receive a computerized printout of results that can be shared with a doctor for follow-up.

“This ultrasound screening of the bottom of your foot is an accurate and safe method to assess your osteoporosis risk,” said Wende Cappetta, SYVCH Vice President. “At last year’s Health Fair, more than 70 people found out if they were at risk. Don’t miss your chance to get a free screening this year.”

There will be more than 40 exhibitor booths, giveaways and refreshments a well as safety helmets for children and adults for only $10 (cash payment only) and properly fitted by trained hospital staff.

The Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program at SYVCH, in conjunction with the Emergency Department, will feature the Matter of Balance program to help assess your risk for a fall. There will also be free information about Advanced Imaging, Nutrition, Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and other services offered at Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital. Plus, everyone can meet the Pet Therapy program dogs who provide comfort to patients at the hospital.

Free refreshments are served throughout Health Fair. Attendees can register during the Fair and be present to win prize drawings every half hour. A total of 34 free gift bags including one grand prize will be offered to celebrate the 34th anniversary of this free community event.

The SYVCH Health Fair is staffed by hospital team members, volunteers from the hospital’s Auxiliary and the SYVCH Foundation Board of Directors; all coordinated and hosted by the Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing year-round support.
