Staff report

An unconventional five-piece band, Walk Off The Earth, is coming to the Chumash Casino Resort’s Samala Showroom at 8 p.m. Friday, March 2.

The band formed in Burlington, Ontario, in 2006. Together, members Sarah Blackwood, Gianni Luminati, Ryan Marshall, Joel Cassady and Mike “Beard Guy” Taylor have become known for their original and sincere songwriting, cover interpretations and beautifully filmed videos.

In early 2012, the band released a live video cover of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know,” featuring all five band members playing on one guitar. The video got more than 35 million views in just under two weeks.

The band released its first original single “Game of Rhythm” on Columbia Records in late 2012. In March 2013, Rolling Stone magazine streamed its unreleased R.E.V.O. album in its entirety, which was followed by the band’s first U.S. and European tour.

Over the past five years, the band has embarked on three additional world tours, was featured on the 2014 Grammy Awards for their video rendition of Lorde’s “Royals,” and won a 2016 Juno Award for Group of the Year. In August 2017, their single “Fire In My Soul” was certified gold.

Tickets are $35, $45 and $55, available at the casino or www.chumashcasino.com
