Greg Brewer, founder and winemaker of Brewer Clifton in the Sta. Rita Hills appellation, has opened the winery’s first off-site tasting room at 2367 Alamo Pintado Road in downtown Los Olivos.

The new Brewer-Clifton Tasting Room is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. offering wine lovers wines that include the Brewer-Clifton line of appellation and single vineyard estate wines, Diatom Chardonnay, and the soon-to-be-released Ex Post Facto Syrah.

Since its founding in 1996, Brewer-Clifton’s wines have been available primarily through the winery’s mailing list and on-site, by-appointment-only tasting room in Lompoc. Recently, however, Brewer had an epiphany.

“I realized that for all the years we hosted customers at our Lompoc winery, we were only engaging people who were already aware and committed to our work. With our new location in the heart of a very vibrant Los Olivos, we now have the opportunity to attract new enthusiasts to explore Sta. Rita Hills, the cool and breezy Highway 246 corridor towards Lompoc that is the provenance of our wines, and the region to which I have dedicated the entirety of my professional life,” he said.

At the new Los Olivos location, the space was cleared of unnecessary shelving, room-dividing doors and window coverings to create an open, light-filled space, punctuated by a few personal items that have special meaning to Brewer, including his mother’s typewriter from her days as a district attorney, a piece of bamboo artwork made for him by his daughter, and a prized set of Japanese Shinto screens.

In addition to current releases, the Brewer-Clifton tasting room will feature occasional library wine offerings, as well as the winery’s only large-format magnum bottlings. A small selection of logo-bearing wearables, glassware and accessories are available for purchase. The $20 tasting fee is refundable with a multiple-bottle purchase.
