Contributed by June Martin, Cottage Hospital Foundation

Thank you to Alisal Guest Ranch and Resort, and Star Drugs for donating a total of 1,140 N95 masks this week.

Our friends in the Santa Ynez Valley don’t have to drive to Goleta to make medical supply donations. The Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital Foundation is facilitating in-kind donations on behalf of Cottage Health in the SYV. People wanting to donate are asked NOT to come to SYVCH, but instead contact June at j2martin@sbch.org  or call (805) 691-9509. She will coordinate a pickup with the donor.

Supplies being accepted include:

  • Faces shields – single use or non-disposable
  • Eye shields – single use or non-disposable
  • Isolation Gowns or Standard level 3 gowns
  • N95 Masks
  • N99 Masks
  • Standard Procedure Masks
  • Sewn masks – please see link and information below on sewn masks https://www.sewgoodgoods.org/face-mask-covid-19

REGARDING SEWN MASKS:

Thank you for your generous offer to sew and donate masks to Cottage Health for use during the COVID-19 outbreak. Although our most pressing need continues to be N95 respirators, we are welcoming sewn masks.

If supplies across the US become depleted and medical facemasks become unavailable, we want to ensure we have planned for alternatives. Cottage Health would exercise caution and discretion in where non-medical grade masks would be used, but we understand that options may become limited if the national need for supplies outpaces future supply chain capabilities.

We want to provide our employees every available option, while ongoing hospital care continues for patients who require hospitalization unrelated to COVID-19 care. Opportunities exist to use procedure masks, and these masks are increasingly scarce.

A variety of material and pattern options can be found online for sewn masks.  One example is, https://www.sewgoodgoods.org/face-mask-covid-19

Please note, we are not endorsing or recommending one particular design.

CDC guidelines and recommendations for conserving personal protective equipment continue to change as the situation evolves. The situation with availability of medical supplies is also changing rapidly, and we will continue to update the community if supply needs change.

Thank you for your thoughtful support.
