The Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) will sponsor a free virtual “New to Medicare” presentation for people interested in better understanding Medicare. The presentation will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13. 

 “HICAP is offering this presentation to help new beneficiaries and their caregivers better understand this comprehensive health care program,” announced Jim Talbott, president of the Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens.  Even those who currently have Medicare coverage can benefit from this detailed overview. 

Topics will include a comprehensive introduction to Medicare, including what Medicare covers, supplemental insurance, Part D prescription coverage, Medicare and employer group health plans and retiree health plan considerations.

HICAP offers free and unbiased counseling and information on Medicare issues. HICAP does not sell, recommend or endorse any insurance product, agent, insurance company or health plan. The presentation is a service of the Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens, HICAP with financial assistance, in whole or in part, through a grant from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid services, the federal Medicare agency.

Open Enrollment presentations

HICAP will also be sponsoring free virtual presentations for people interested in better understanding Medicare. The “Medicare Open Enrollment Choices” presentations will be held:

  • Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m.
  • Thursday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 2:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 10 a.m.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m.

Topics will include an introduction to Medicare including what Medicare covers, supplemental insurance, how to evaluate and choose the best Part D prescription coverage, and Medicare Advantage plan options.
